Baumgartner, Laura, and Charles Hill. "Stories in Science." Science Teacher 76.4 (2009): 60-64. Wilson Web. Web. 1 Nov. 2009.

This article demonstrates the potential effectiveness of using stories in middle and secondary science classrooms. Stories relate class content to real life and can give students a motivator for mastering information. It is recommended that when choosing a story, consider the lesson objectives. The story can engage students as teachers introduce new concepts and also serve as a background for investigation. Students can take the problem presented in the book and re-create the scenario or model a new investigation around the story. In this article, the specific example was "FloJo's Story" and how it was incorporated into instruction, experimentation and assessment. I found the article relevant because the use of stories is not a common practice in secondary schools and details a specific example. I would have recommend this article but also suggest finding some resources that quantitatively assess the effectiveness of the practice.
